LAGOS THEATRE HOLDS SUMMER PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN, TEENAGERS
… Exposes Participants to Creative Arts, Coding, Others
As a way of productively engaging school children and teenagers during the present long vacation, the Lagos Theatre, Igando, has organised a three-week Summer Programme for students within and around Alimosho.
The Summer Programme, held in partnership with Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, exposed the participants to the elementary knowledge of music, drumming, dance and different creative arts.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the programme at the weekend, the Administrator and Artistic Director of Lagos Theatre, Igando, Mr. Bimbo Obafunwa, said that the rationale behind the programme was to expose the scholars to different opportunities within the creative sector at a very tender age.
He expressed delight at the discovery of young talented teenagers and children, who took part in the summer training programme, assuring that the management of the theatre will follow-up on the new talents discovered and ensure that they are properly groomed.
“This year, the summer programme ran from the 2nd of August to the 27th August, 2021, for children between the ages of four and 16 years old. The idea was to basically expose the children within the Alimosho community to artistic activities that would obviously expose them to a lot of visual art, creative art, drama, dance and a lot of fun things as well. We also introduced the game of Chess to the tournaments this year”, Obafunwa stated.
He explained that Chess was introduced because it is a game that encourages tactical thinking, considering the fact that the creative industry requires a lot of thinking and creative processes.
Obafunwa expressed hope that the Summer Programme would continue every year as the theatre is poised to develop and discover more talents to become national and international creative stars.
The parents of participants at the Summer Programme expressed happiness to see their children on stage for the first time performing and delivering drama pieces and dance presentations.
