LASCOCO ORGANISES CAPACITY TRAINING FOR MEMBERS OF COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

… Reiterates Commitment to Stronger Cooperative Movements

The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has organised capacity-building training for members of all newly registered Cooperative Societies in the State as part of its efforts to reinvigorate the activities of the movements in Lagos.

Mr. Akorede Ojomu, Provost of the College, in his opening address at the commencement of the training programme in Agege, said it was designed to improve participants’ managerial skills, stressing that LASCOCO has the statutory responsibility of providing comprehensive education to cooperators for efficient management of their cooperative societies.

In his words: “The College has been saddled with the provision of various intervention, cooperative educational programmes comprising of short, medium and long term professional courses, as well as National Diploma programmes, in various cooperative studies”.

Ojomu stated that the training was not only conceived to introduce participants to the rudiments of cooperative enterprise but to also improve the performance of bookkeepers and trustees of cooperative societies for gainful purposes.

The Director of the Programme, Mr. Olabode Fagbiye, enjoined the participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the capacity-building programme to acquire more knowledge for the effective and efficient management of their societies and for the benefit of their members.

He declared that Cooperative Societies aid the socio-economic growth of a society, hence, the reason for the present administration’s determination to continually provide an enabling environment, including putting in place relevant laws to strengthen the cooperative movement in Lagos State.

Fagbiye emphasised that the State Government would deal appropriately with any erring official who derailed from stipulated objectives by engaging in corrupt management of their respective societies.
