As part of the safety precautionary measure put together to explore improved security of lives, property and road culture among the motoring public, a Nigeria-based German Organization (GIZ) has collaborated with the Lagos State Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) for a two-day safety training of its drivers operating in Southwest of Nigeria.
Speaking at the event held recently at LASDRI Headquarters, Oshodi, lkeja, Lagos, the General Manager of the Institute, Mrs. Tiamiyu Afusat said the training initiative reflects the shared vision of promoting professionalism, safety and efficiency among drivers in Lagos State.
According to the LASDRI boss, the collaboration with GIZ signifies both organisation’s commitment to excellence, not only for personal development but also in contributing to broader goals of sustainable transportation and road safety in the country.
Tiamiyu stressed further that the knowledge acquired in the training will not only benefit individuals but will also have a positive impact on the lives of countless others who rely on their expertise and dedication.
She appealed for the cooperation of the Organization and the participants to work hand in hand with the Lagos State Government to build a safer and more responsible driving culture on Lagos roads.
In the same vein, GIZ NIGERIA and ECOWAS Security risk management adviser, Mr. Ernest Aliozor said the training was designed to improve road safety standards and enhance the driving capabilities of their drivers operating in high risk environments.
He said the specialised training was to equip drivers with the essential skills to navigate the unique challenges posed by road travel in Nigeria, especially in areas prone to security risks.
Aliozor emphasised that the training programme will focus on developing drivers’ situational awareness, promoting defensive driving techniques, and building competency in emergency response and professional conduct.
He noted that the ultimate goal of the training is geared towards the safety of drivers, passengers and the assets they are responsible for, especially in high-threat locations.
