…Enjoins Pupils, Students to Recognise Their Uniqueness
The Lagos State Ministry of Education has joined the rest of the world to commemorate the Year 2023 Albinism Day with a call to everyone, especially pupils and students, to recognize their individual uniqueness and explore it for positive benefits.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji made the call in his address at an event organised to celebrate the 2023 Albinism Day with students and pupils living with albinism in Lagos State Schools, held at the Lagos State Education Resource Centre, Ojodu.
Abolaji, represented by Mrs. Omolayo Akinlade, the Director of the Education Resource Centre, stated that the importance of self-worth creates a positive mindset for learning and assimilation of educational values.
He emphasised the importance of believing in oneself and recognizing one’s uniqueness at all times, stressing that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to ensuring that pupils and students with albinism are protected against all forms of discrimination.
According to him, the annual World Albinism Day organised by the Child Guidance, School Counselling and Special Education Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Education with the theme “Inclusion is Strength”, is aimed at ensuring the inclusion of the voices of persons with albinism in all sectors of life.
The event attended by pupils, students, parents and advocates for the right of albinos also featured two speakers who shared their “Living with Albinism” experiences with the participants.
