The Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA) has taken over the management of the newly commissioned Oba Ogunji Road for proper allocation of the urban space for informal business activities.
According to the Head of Engineering Services, LASPEMA, Engr. Saidi Alani Lawal, the move became necessary to avoid the abuse and misuse of the aesthetics of the road, reiterating the need for constant monitoring of the activities of the Informal Business Sector along the axis.
He averred that the Agency will evoke the Lagos State Physical Planning and Urban Law 2019, Section E, as amended, in order to control the flagrant abuse of Urban and Incidental Open Spaces in the State.
“Although the Informal Business Sector serves as a catalyst for employment and revenue generation in the State, the need to curtail its activities can not be overemphasised”, Lawal noted.
He, therefore, called on informal business owners who want to operate along Oba Ogunji Road to apply for an approval from LASPEMA for efficient and proper management and documentation.
Recall that the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Idris Salako’s concern over the flagrant abuse of Lagos Urban Space made him charge LASPEMA, the agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the proper use of Urban or Incidental Open Space in the State, to be alive to her responsibilities.
