The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has met with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Africa Development Bank (AFDB) to explore ways of strengthening the sustainability of health systems project preparation in Lagos State.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide said that physical planning was critical to any meaningful development and should be the first port of call as far as project preparation was concerned.
He noted that the relevance of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to all development projects in the State was signified by its important roles in site selection and delivery of project sites.
The Commissioner stated that the Ministry had also approved designs and monitored construction to ensure compliance with zoning and other provisions of Master Plans and physical planning regulations.
The General Manager, Lagos State Informal Sector Management Authority (LASISMA), Tpl. Daisi Oso advocated the synergy between the two ministries in reforming economic activities on informal space for greater access to healthcare services.
On his part, Director, Regional and Master Plan Department, Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Kunle Salami spoke on the relevance of the various hierarchies of development plans prepared by the Ministry in collaboration with stakeholders.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who facilitated the meeting said that the visit was to explore greater collaboration for strengthening the sustainability of health systems projects in Lagos State.
He said that the visit to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development was part of visits to the relevant MDAs of the government for the same purpose.
AfDB team lead, Babatunde Omilola, who expressed his satisfaction with the development in Lagos State, said the Africa Development Bank was out to promote economic growth and integration on the continent.
Commissioner Olumide presented the AfDB team with copies of Development Plans while the Director, Technical Services, Tpl. Bola Aliu appreciated the guests and called for regular meetings between the two ministries.
General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike and Directors in the Office of Physical Planning were also in attendance.
