OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION COLLABORATES WITH ALMA MATER FOR TEACHERS’ CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT

… Promises International Training For Education District III Teachers 

As part of the efforts by the Lagos State Government to enhance teachers’ capacity, the Old Boys Association of 1986 – 1989 sets of the Government Senior College, Victoria Island, has organised a one-day staff training session to empower and improve teachers ability beyond the classroom.

Speaking on the gesture, the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Education District III, Dr. Oluwafolayimika Ayandele, affirmed that the Association had been impactful on the academic performance of the students and building capacity for teachers in the district.

Ayandele, who was represented at the event by the Principal of the School, Dr. Adedoyin Salisu, commended the Association’s efforts in ensuring that the teachers and the students of the school live a successful life, adding that the training would motivate the teachers for greater productivity in their career, and also help them to develop a personal relationship with staff and students of the district.

The President of the Old Boys Association, Feyi Ijimakinwa, said the purpose of the training was to provide windows of opportunity for personal development of teachers in the school, stressing that the gesture would help the teachers to build a strong relationship with other employees, staff of the school, students as well as the society at large.

While informing that the Old Boys Association had formed an initiative to develop the capacity of the students and teachers, Ijimakinwa, who is also the Professor of Migration Study at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, said the Association would also sponsor the teachers for external training in Finland and Australia in order to equip them better for their profession.

Speaking on the training with the theme “Beyond the Classroom: Leveraging Opportunities for Personal Development”, the Director of Training, London Corporate Advantage Consulting, United Kingdom, Professor Hakeem Ajonbadi, charged the teachers to improve on their emotional intelligence and develop an organisational structure to help them relate well with their students.

Ajonbadi said the training would also help the teachers develop a report for the Lagos State government in building a strong education policy.
