TESCOM TRAINS ADVANCED LEVEL TEACHERS ON HANDLING “AT-RISK-LEARNERS”

The Chairman, Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Elizabeth Olabisi Ariyo, has charged Lagos State Secondary School Teachers on the need to be more passionate and proactive in identifying and motivating “At-Risk-Students” among their peers for proper monitoring and motivation.

Mrs. Ariyo spoke at the just concluded training of 300 Advanced Level Teachers held at NECA House, CBD, Alausa, with the theme: Motivating “At-Risk-Students”: Framework and Tools For 21st Century Classroom Teachers.

According to her, the ability of teachers to impact positively and efficiently on all categories of students, leaving none behind, is a major quality of a 21st Century Super Teacher, who has matched up with global best practices.

Her words: “If we are to achieve the goals of the Education and Technology Pillar in the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, then it is pertinent that all categories of students are adequately taken care of in our school curriculum, while Educators and Education Administrators pay particular attention to the At-Risks-Students, making sure they are not left behind.

Ariyo affirmed that the training was important and necessary to equip teachers to identify and understand At-Risk-Students, who are most likely to be challenged by the 21st century Digitalised Education System.

She expressed optimism that the training will go a long way in exposing the participants to various resources and tools needed to monitor the implementation of a motivational programme focused on At-Risk-Students.

“This training will also help our teachers to understand the diverse perspectives of motivation and be able to develop, design and integrate differential learning programmes into the school curriculum as well as develop skills for teaching At-Risk-Students”, she declared.
